Today (Friday), at the Chinese Historical Museum, a new exhibition will open showcasing the Achievements of Maestro Jahja Ling. St. Luke's Church will begin a series of films on or set in Africa beginning with the drama Juwaa. Filipino band Parokya Ni Edgar will perform at the House of Blues. The film Toubab will be shown at the Digital Gym as part of the German Currents Kino series. There will be additional screenings on the 26th and 29th. The comedy troupe Los Toxicos will perform at Corazon del Barrio. At St. James by the Sea, Jeanine de Bique will perform with Concerto Köln. The Guachinangos show at Worldbeat will celebrate Cumbia and Son Jarocho music.
Next Saturday, at the College/Rolando Library, there will be a workshop called Crafting Culture: The Traditions of Ramadan. At Ruocco Park, the Calienté Latin Music, Food, Beer, Tequila and Spirits Festival will take place. Persian band Dornob will give a concert at the Kensington-Normal Heights Library. At the La Jolla Riford Library, author Raissa Figueroa will discuss her new book, You Will Do Great Things. Ukrainian Opera Singer Anna Belaya will sing Ukrainian songs at the La Jolla Community Center. The documentary The Six Triple Eight will screen at The Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. The opera Tosca will be performed at the San Diego Civic Theatre. There will be additional performances on the 28th and 31st of this month and April 2nd. London's The Kingdom Choir will perform at the Balboa Theatre.
Next Sunday, the House of Iran will hold their annual Lawn Program celebrating the spring festival of Nowruz. At the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Sewam Dance show will feature Native American music, dance, and culture. At Music Box, Caloncho will perform Mexican folk, rock, and reggae.
Monday, there will be a Nowruz Celebration at the Mingei.
Wednesday, at the House of Ukraine in Balboa Park, there will be a group Vesnianki Singing session that you can join.
Thursday at the JCC, the 3-day Indian Fine Arts Academy Festival gets underway with multiple performances each evening. The San Diego World Affairs Council will host Ambassador Kenneth Juster for their Dinner with Diplomats Series. Juster will talk about US-India relations.
Next Friday, Warwick's will host author Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai who will talk about her book Dust Child.
Next Saturday, Tijuana-based band Adeumazel will perform at Duck Foot Brewing. There will be a Lao New Year Gala at the California Center for the Arts. The GRAMMY award-winning Chucho Valdés Quartet will perform at the Conrad Prebys Performing Art Center.
Next Sunday, there will be an Iranian Sizdah Bedar (Nature Day) celebration at Liberty Station. At Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, there will be a ballet performance of a Midsummer Night's Dream. The Quartyard will hold an Afrodiaspora Day Party.
Local theatrical offerings include The Cherry Orchard at North Coast Rep, The XIXth (The Nineteenth) at the Old Globe, and Monsters of the American Cinema at Diversionary.
